Albums of the Decade - 83. Bullion - You Drive Me To Plastic

83. BULLION - YOU DRIVE ME TO PLASTIC

Jamming in at just over 20 minutes, this is technicallly an EP, but there's about two albums worth of ideas in this superlative mixtape from 2011. Starting off with a space shuttle oddyssey type jam and then getting as funky as a chicken with the sublime "Magic Was Ruler" at just three minutes in - it recalls my favorite club night ever - Beats In Abundance,at which once I cycled on a bike and powered an amp.:- https://www.beatsinabundance.com/.

Funk, soul, samples and electronica forge the ticket here, recalling The Avalanches, Hudson Mohawk and J Dilla. I am typing this in one spurt, as I get lost in the jam before heading out for a beer degustation. I would rather step out the door right now than stay home and think about Trump cancelling his meeting with The Taliban. Maybe if I hash-stamp his name, I will get more likes, either that or I buy some.

top records of 2011 - 9. Bullion - You Drive Me To Plastic

9. BULLION - YOU DRIVE ME TO PLASTIC
I used to frequent a club-night back in my prime - I hope I have a second prime - a few years ago at university called Beats In Abundance and they used to spin funk, electronic, samba - a bit of everything. My friend Luke Baines was and still is a champion for mixing together so many colours and styles.

They once had cake at a christmas party and often had helium baloons in the small club. At the Christmas party in London a couple of years ago, they had exercise bikes inside to help power the speaker or something. Back in Norwich, their regular home, this was the only night I would ever happily pay for, as in Po Na Na, I often got someone to open the Fire Escape door and secretly enter through that. Once I got caught though, as the alarm was soundng pretty loudly. Maybe everyone thought it was part of the music though.

This EP shows bags of promise for a young British producer and DJ. The samples are magic. Maybe he makes a lot of them himself. About that, I'm not so sure. It is so diverse, so unique and so enthralling - that the journey will hopefully be even longer and more fleshed out so far. Recalling The Avalanches and The Books, hit this up for a whirlwind of a 20 minute party.
